The Friends of Fort Fremont (FFF) is collaborating with the the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) Digital History Center (DHC) to develop a digital simulation of Homeland Coastal Defense at Fort Fremont at the turn of the 20th century. In the coming months, three cadet researchers will conduct an on-site survey and digital mapping, primary and secondary source research, product design, and development of the video simulations. The end product will consist of a digital publication of Fort Fremont including two videos depicting historical animation of the construction and operation of Fort Fremont during the Spanish-American War ((1898-1900)

West Point’s on-site survey is scheduled for July 31 through August 5, 2025. On Sunday ,August 3, at 3pm, the cadets will participate in a panel discussion of their findings. Dr. James Shinn. Assistant Professor of History, USCB, will serve as the moderator.
The event is co-sponsored by the Beaufort County Historical Society and will be open to the public, free of charge.
